Mares lining up for Prized Icon in 2020

Dual Group 1 winner Prized Icon is again grabbing the attention of broodmare owners as he prepares for his second season at stud.

Bookings have been flowing in for Prized Icon from throughout NSW as well as the northern and southern states.

“He kicked off his stud career in the best possible fashion last year and we have been really happy with the interest he is attracting in 2020,” Kooringal Stud’s Stuart Lamont said.

The son of champion sire of sires More Than Ready covered close to 120 mares with an excellent fertility rate in his initial season at Kooringal.

“There were some extremely well bred mares among them with tons of black type in their pedigrees,” Stuart said.

“He is a magnificent individual with the temperament to match and we cannot wait to see his first foals on the ground when the spring rolls around.”

The Kooringal team is confident Prized Icon’s deeds at stud will measure up to his outstanding success on the track.

Prized Icon was one of the most brilliant two-year-olds of his generation, finishing in the top three at all seven starts as a juvenile.

Group 1 glory in the Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick provided the highlight, while he emulated the feat at the highest level at three with a runaway win in the VRC Derby (2500m) at Flemington.

Prized Icon farewelled the track as a multi-millionaire, boasting $2.1 million in earnings.

The imposing brown will stand at $11,000 (inc GST) in 2020, with attractive breeding packages also available.
