Maltese keeps producing the goods

Prolific producer Maltese has a golden opportunity to add to her remarkable record after becoming a proud mum again at Kooringal Stud.

The daughter of TALE OF THE CAT foaled a striking black filly (pictured) by Kooringal’s dual Group 1 winning stallion PRIZED ICON.

Maltese is already the dam of the flying ANCESTRY and top two-year-old DIAMOND TATHAGATA.

ANCESTRY’S nine sprint wins – including two at Listed level at Flemington and Moonee Valley - have yielded almost $540,000 in prizemoney.

The five-year-old has also highlighted the potential of his sire THE BROTHERS WAR, who stands at Kooringal.

DIAMOND TATHAGATA won the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick before finishing a creditable seventh in She Will Reign’s Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill in 2017.

Thorsborne, Anonymous and Offspring are Maltese’s other talented offspring, winning 10 races between them.

Maltese has a yearling colt from PRIZED ICON’S first crop.

Angus Lamont said: "It's another great foal out of Maltese - a beautifully balanced, strong individual. The mare continues to leave outstanding foals and the latest filly by Prized Icon is another fine example of the stock he is leaving."

August has been a hectic month for Kooringal, with a number of early foals already on the ground.

"We've had around 30 foals for the month of August with a large number due in the next couple of weeks. Half of them are by Prized Icon, with some teriffic individuals, giving us continued confidence in supporting him with another nice book of mares," Angus said.

Evergreen mare SHEPISHIR produced a chestnut filly by PRIZED ICON.

SHEPISHIR was outstanding on the track, with the Listed Goldmarket at the Gold Coast featuring among her 15 wins.

The winner of $300,000 plus in prizemoney has produced three winners and is a half-sister to MAGIC ALBERT’S Group 3 winner MARCHINSKI.
