Iron horse lives up to his Promise

Iron horse On A Promise continued to ride the crest of a winning wave last month.

The six-year-old, who was bred by Kooringal Stud, notched his fourth consecutive win in the $50,000 Picnic Championship final at Dubbo before making it five victory on end in a $40,000 Showcase event at Coonabarabran.

On A Promise is by Shrapnel, who stood at Kooringal and produced 48 individual winners before his untimely death in 2016.

His dam In A Tiz was a full sister to Katana – the champion 2YO filly of New Zealand in 2002-03.

Dubbo's Brett Robb took over the training of On A Promise from his father Rodney and has been dominant around the Picnics circuit.

On A Promise has started 18 times for Robb since August last year for eight wins and seven placings.

Another Kooringal-bred gelding Jay Peak Kitten strung together wins at Ipswich and the Gold Coast in the space of eight days.

Jay Peak Kitten is from the proven producer Fidele and is a half-brother to eight winners, including the stakesplaced Fidelia and the smart stayer Standoff who was a fast-finishing third in the greys race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

Fidele’s latest addition is a grey or chestnut Prized Icon colt who was foaled in September (see pictured).
