Management and Team

Kooringal Stud is owned and managed by Stuart and Penny Lamont and their children — Angus, James, Richard and Georgie. The fourth generation of Lamonts is now involved in Kooringal and having a very positive impact, with Angus and Richard now assisting in the day-to-day running of the farm..

Stuart continues his ‘hands-on’ management, overseeing and working closely with all facets of the breeding and rearing of horses at Kooringal Stud. He also enjoys a high-profile in the enthusiastic racing region of the Riverina, being the long serving President of Murrumbidgee Turf Club.

Dedication and communication is vital and we believe we have a unique working relationship at Kooringal. We welcome you to visit by arrangement.

Angus Lamont left school in 2003 and spent 12 months on a cattle station in the Northern Territory called Austral Downs, owned by AA Co.

He then worked on Kooringal in 2004 before studying Horse Business Management at Marcus Oldham College in Geelong.

He completed the course with a distinction average and won several awards including the Thoroughbred Industry Award, Marcus Oldham College Old Students Association Award for Practical Skills and was the inaugural winner of the UK and International Breeding Scholarship.

This award has seen Angus partake in work at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket England and County Meath in Ireland throughout 2007. This opportunity has helped him gather a range of experience in all aspects of the breeding industry throughout the UK and Ireland as well as assisting at sales in Deauville.

Angus returned to Kooringal in 2008 and is now Stud Manager.

Richard Lamont has just returned from the NT where he Jackarooed at Brunette Downs as a member of the Bullock Camp. Before that, he had finished his schooling in Melbourne.

Richard has settled in to home life and is looking forward to learning more about horses, as well as helping out with pasture improvements and management. He is also playing local Rugby and enjoying it immensely.

Michael ‘Woody’ Wupperman joined Kooringal Stud in 2008 and recently completed his third year of the Bachelor of Equine Science at CSU Wagga.

Woody grew up in Melbourne, spending as many of his free weekends and holidays as possible at a small racing stable. For the past few years he has worked as a stablehand, and was involved in driving and training harness racing horses at various Pacing Stables.

Woody is now involved in all aspects at Kooringal Stud, with his main roles including maintenance of mares and foals as Broodmare Manager

Julie & Peter Cowell continue to work part-time with us at Kooringal and are responsible for the education and handling of foals, weanlings and yearlings.

They have extensive experience in the equine industry, both having travelled overseas. Between them, they've notched-up over 25 years with us at Kooringal.
