(Southern Halo -
Agustina's Dream by Senor Pete)
The Argentinian-bred Alert was a juvenile group one
winner collecting the San Isidro Gran Premio Estrellas
Junior Sprint over 1000m, in the very slick time of 55.2
seconds. During his two year old season he added the
Group 3 Palermo Classico Hipodromo Argentino over the
same distance and the Especial Copa de Precoces 2004
final over 800 m.
Although Alert missed most of his next season having
only one start where he finished fourth in the Group 2
San Isidro Cyllene, he finished off his racing career at
four with a win in the San Isidro Handicap Sandal over
1000m.
Alert ran sixteen times, recording five wins and two
placings, he's by the champion Argentinian Sire,
Southern Halo (Halo - Northern Sea by Northern Dancer),
who has another five sons at stud in Australia; My Lad,
Taimazov, Dubleo, Star Cross and More than Ready.
Southern Halo was an immediate success at stud, becoming
the Leading Sire in Argentina for almost a decade before
his sale to Coolmore in 1998. He has left more than 100
stakes winners worldwide and he has 38 Group I winners
to his credit.
As a racehorse Southern Halo was a group one runner-up
in the Super Derby and the Swap Stakes both events were
run over 2000m. He won five of his 24 starts and placed
10 times and his sire Halo (Hail to Reason - Cosmah by
Cosmic Bomb) was the winner of nine races including the
Group I United Nations Handicap (a1900m) and he was the
leading sire in America in 1983 and 1989.
Halo produced the two Kentucky Derby winners in Sunny's
Halo and Sunday Silence, who became Japan's first great
sire and whose influence has spread to Australia via
sons like Genuine, the sire of this year's VRC
Australian Cup winner, Pompeii Ruler (ex West With Night
by Pompeii Court), Bubble Gum Fellow who has left the
New Zealand group one winner Rockabubble (ex Blond
rocket by Rory's Jester) and the group two winner
Confectioner (ex Princess Blue by Poetic Prince), Tayasu
Tsuyoshi the sire of the VRC Group I Oaks winner, Hollow
Bullet (ex Beat the Bullet by Bite the Bullet), Fuji
Kiseki and the Australian-bred Keep the Faith, who set a
record for 1200m on turf in America in 2005 and Sunday
Night.
The Halo line has also enjoyed success in Australia via
Don't Say Halo, who races to La Troienne; and in New
Zealand via Oregon, whose dam Three Troikas is a
multiple group one winner, including the Arc de Triomphe.
To top it off Halo's dam is the 1974 USA Broodmare of
the Year, Cosmah (Cosmic Bomb - Almahmoud by Mahmoud),
winner of nine races at two and three including the
Astarita Stakes and dam of Champion Two and Three Year
Old
Filly Tosmah.
Cosmah is also, and most importantly, a half-sister to
Natalma (by Native Dancer), dam of the Kentucky Derby
winner and sire legend in Northern Dancer, who himself
is the damsire of Southern Halo.
This relationship could be the reason Halo-line horses
have crossed so well with mares carrying strains of
Northern Dancer.
The damsire of Alert is the two-year old group one
winner, Senor Pete who hails from the family of Hall Of
Fame Champion and USA Triple Crown winner, Affirmed (by
Exclusive Native) and Confidential Lady (by Singspiel),
winner of the Group I Chantilly Prix de Diane.
Alert's female family features the Argentinian group one
winner Newmarket.
Alert will stand his first season at Kooringal Stud
under the care of Stuart Lamond whose research shows
that Alert's foals will all have a very high figure of
gender balanced duplications of Northern Dancer,
Buckpasser, Crafty Admiral, Bold Ruler, Phalaris, Green
Dancer, Bull Dog, Bull Lea, Sir Gallahad III, Menow,
Mahoud, Hyperion, Blue Larkspur, Gainsborough, Selene,
Man o'War, War Admiral and Native Dancer will always be
gender balanced if they are duplicated in the offspring
- this is a huge tally of the very best blood and gives
the foal distinct advantages.
Alert's service fee has been set as $8,800
(inc gst) with a live foal guarantee.
