Saturday, 26 August 2006: Court's In Session put his
autumn failures behind him when he reclaimed his place
among Sydney's best weight-for-age horses with a game
first-up win in the $200,000 Warwick Stakes at Randwick
today.
Trainer Guy Walter had declared Court's In Session was
at the crossroads of his career if he could not regain
his old form this preparation.
A recent trial win indicated he was on the right track
again and he ran up to it by holding off the big
challenge of Doncaster Handicap winner racing To Win
over the last 200 metres.
Danny Bealsey allowed Court's In Session to take up his
customary role of leader but did not set a breakneck
pace and rode a heady race as he gradually quickened the
pace from the 800m.
He had kicked two lengths clear before Glen Boss asked
Racing To Win for his final effort and at the 100m
looked certain to reel him in.
However Court's In Session showed he was far from past
his best when kept fighting to the line to put himself
back on the map as a force for the spring.
Walter was elated by the win but said he will take his
time to work out options for the seven-year-old, who has
now won 13 of his 19 starts and more than $1.3 million
prizemoney.
"He's such a brave horse, he's the favourite of
everybody in the stable," Walter said.
Beasley placed Court's In Session along side Grand Armee
as the most exciting horse he has ridden.
"I've been lucky and privileged to ride Grand Armee and
now this bloke," Beasley said.
"He is a very exciting horse to ride."
Racing To Win will certainly be fitter for his first-up
effort after the drama of his midweek fall during
trackwork at Randwick.
Dual Epsom winner Desert War made a strong return to
racing, holding on for third after settling second and
trying to stay in touch with Court's In Session when he
quickened from the 600m.
BMW winner Eremein raced closer to the pace than
expected and he will also be greatly improved after
looming as a place chance in the straight.
