"NSW
Three-Year-Old
of the Year -
Stunning in both
performance and
appearance"
Harry Lawton
|
In only 12 starts, Bureaucracy
(NZ) quickly established himself
as one of the top sprinter-milers
of his generation, winning 5
races including the Group 1
STC George Ryder Stakes (1500m),
Group 2 VRC Ascot Vale Stakes
(1200m) and Group 3 AJC Roman
Consul Stakes (1200m) and finishing
second in the Group 1 VATC Futurity
Stakes (1400m), Group 1 VRC
Lightning Stakes (1000m), Group
2 MVRC Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m),
Group 3 AJC Up and Coming Stakes
(1200m) and Group 3 AJC Royal
Sovereign Stakes (1200m). With
this outstanding win in the
George Ryder, it was no wonder
he was crowned Champion Middle
Distance 3-Y-O for 1990-1991.
Forced into early retirement
because due to a suspensory
ligament injury, Bureaucracy
(NZ) carried that form into
the breeding barn, siring such
notable Group performers as
Court's In Session, Mr Bureaucrat,
Regulations, Desk Top
Lover, Normal Practice, Noircir.
Court's In Session successful
in the George Ryder Stakes at
Rosehill, deservedly adding
an elusive Group 1 to his impressive
record. After beating one of
Australasia's best performers
and multiple Group 1 winner
in Grand Armee in the AJC Expressway
Stakes at Group 2 Level, then
running close 2nd's to the same
galloper at his next 2 starts,
Court's in Session came back
from a very short let up to
beat subsequent Group 1 Doncaster
Handicap winner and stable mate,
Patezza After being taken on
in the lead, Court's In Session
held on well to beat all bar
Patezza, reversing the placing
of the George Ryder the start
before.
Court's In Session went on to
win 14 races in total, amassing
over $1.4 million in prize money,
before an injury forced the
galloper to retire. Living out
his days on his owners property,
Court's In Session is Bureaucracy's
highest stakes earner to date.
Successfully syndicated by the
'father' of syndication in Australia,
Harry Lawton. Harry had a high
opinion of the colt, outlaying
NZD $27,000 at the New Zealand
sales. Trained initially by
Neville Begg and then by Jack
Denham, when Neville went to
Hong Kong to continue his training
and ridden by some of the great
jockeys of years gone by, including
Mick Dittman, Ken Russell and
Ron Quinton. Mick had a very
high opinion of Bureaucracy
(NZ), saying he was a "magic
horse to ride, you could put
him anywhere in a race...really
lovely horse...couldn't recommend
him highly enough."

Race
Record
Bureaucracy's
(NZ) career was cut short due
to a suspensory ligament
injury sustained shortly
after the Group 1 George
Ryder Stakes. The same race,
in which his most successful
son, Court's In Session,
also stamped his authority.
