Kooringal
Stud is situated midway
between Sydney and Melbourne on
the boundary of the Riverina and
South West Slopes of NSW, 20 kilometres
northeast of Wagga Wagga.
The property comprises an area of
1000 hectares (2500 acres) and has
been in the care of the Lamont family
since 1910.
Kooringal
Stud has excellent facilities
with forty doubled fenced paddocks
surrounded by some 40,000 trees.
Each paddock has an adjacent yard
and is linked to 3 main sets of yards
by a system of laneways, which enables
the safe movement of all horses.
The paddocks vary in size from 2
hectares to 60 hectares and are
regularly sown down to pastures
of Lucerne, Clover and Phalaris.
Kooringal
Stud is managed by the
Lamont family (Stuart and
Penny pictured) and is very
fortunate to have a band of
experienced and dedicated
staff members to assist with
the management and day to
day running of the Stud.
The
staff members include
Angus
Lamont. Angus returns
to Kooringal this year after
successfully completing an
equine business management
course at Marcus Oldham College
followed by a twelve month stint
at Landwades stud in England and
Staffordstown in Ireland. Angus
will be involved in all aspects
of the business.
Jacqui
Coghlan is entering her
third stud season at
Kooringal as stud office
manager and her duties also
include the feeding and checking
of weanlings, yearlings and
spellers.
Tim
Forster remains
at Kooringal
for this season having spent
many years abroad and within
Australia working with
Equestrian horses. Tim spent
several years at Kooringal
when he first graduated from
Charles Sturt University.
Tim will manage the four
stallions and the breeding
programme.
Debbie
Berzins will do the bulk of
the foaling again this
season having also done the
previous three seasons at
Kooringal.
Julie
and Peter Cowell continue to
work with us at Kooringal
and are responsible for the
education and handling
of foals, weanlings and
yearlings. They have
extensive experience in the
equine industry both having
travelled overseas and
between them notched up
about 15 years with us at
Kooringal.
Stuart continues his “hands
on” management, overseeing
and working closely with all
facets of the breeding and
rearing of horses at
Kooringal Stud. Dedication
and communication is vital
and we believe we have a
unique working relationship
at Kooringal and welcome you
to visit by arrangement.
